Forced Displacement

Working collaboratively in times of forced displacement to foster greater impact and sustainability.

Forced Displacement

In an increasingly uncertain world, Sower International recognizes the need for strong collaboration and resource sharing among those working to serve the most vulnerable. With the global numbers of forcibly displaced reaching over 130 million in 2025, Sower International has positioned itself as a team player with strong ties to both local and international stakeholders. Recognizing that the church is often a first responder in times of forced displacement, we seek a collaborative approach, where caring for the most vulnerable can be shared among a range of key stakeholders.

In addition to working with partners to provide basic food and shelter, we understand the need for a holistic approach to recovery after trauma. That is why Sower International collaborates with refugee practitioners in Europe and the Middle East in providing trauma care training to first responders. Additionally, we recognise the strength and capability of refugees themselves and seek to train and equip refugees to become part of the solution, supporting those fleeing from their countries of origin.

Building Resilience and Compassion

Trauma Care Training in Greece and the Middle East
  • Expanding Trauma Care in Crisis Areas: Since 2021, trauma care workshops have been organized for trainers and first responders in the Middle East and Greece, addressing the critical need for support in communities affected by crisis and hardship.
  • Engaging Methods for Building Resilience: During workshops participants engage in trauma awareness sessions, share personal stories in a safe and supportive environment, and explore resilience-building strategies. These workshops incorporate diverse methods such as teaching, interactive small group discussions, and creative activities like drawing.
  • Creating a Network of Support: By equipping participants to provide psychological first aid and facilitate a level of healing to people in their own communities, we aim to create a ripple effect that multiplies caring friends for traumatized people. In this way, the workshops not only address immediate needs but also build long-lasting networks of compassion and care.
