Who we are

Transforming lives and communities – for good to grow.

Who we are

Sower International is a faith-based organization committed to making the world a better place for all of us to live. In our case, faith refers to Christianity that is in the core of Sower International value base. In practice, this means we value each person equally and want good to grow in and through each person.

Sower International is also a professional development organization that has been working with development challenges since the 1970’s. It has competent staff and a deep understanding of the plurality of development issues. Our understanding of good quality development initiatives is grounded in properly identified and real needs, with a focus on culturally sensitive and contextually appropriate practices. We focus on addressing the root causes of poverty, injustice, and inequality, with beneficiaries having no ideological or worldview limitations. We also aim to identify social structures that perpetuate inequity.

How we work

At the heart of our work lies an unwavering commitment to making a lasting impact. We work hand-in-hand with individuals and communities, fostering resilience and creating sustainable change through persistence and long-term dedication. Our approach is dynamic and agile, enabling us to adapt to ever-changing needs and challenges while staying rooted in our core values. We thrive in diverse contexts, immers ourselves in the local culture, learning the local language, and living and working alongside local people. By building genuine connections and embracing innovative solutions, we empower communities to thrive and overcome adversity, one step at a time.

Sower International’s Christian values foster a deep understanding of diverse worldviews, recognising the important influence of religions, ideologies, and political beliefs on societal change. We view these differences not as threats but as opportunities to enrich the work. Understanding these perspectives also strengthens our role as peace-builders, enabling us to promptly address conflicts and promote a genuine and constructive dialogue, and recovery from crises.

Who we partner with

While we prioritise ethical principles, Sower International welcomes individuals from all backgrounds in recruitment, provided they align with our ethical framework and comply with possible donor conditions. Participation in our development projects is not contingent on religious affiliation. Our operations are transparent and ethically sustainable.

We often collaborate with churches and Christian organizations in development cooperation where appropriate and possible. The Christian Church, in the broadest sense of the word, has a long history of fostering love, solidarity and care; factors that are central also to our goal. Sower International is proud to continue this long tradition. In countries where churches do exist, they are vital components of society, not merely recipients of foreign aid. Churches are deeply embedded in the local context and have the privilege and duty to promote the well-being of all the citizens in the society, regardless of status, and to advocate for those living in vulnerable situations.
